Like the birch tree shedding its paper-thin bark, this collection invites you to peel back the layers you’ve outgrown and return to the raw, authentic self within.

Part poetry, part soulful pep talks, When the Birch Peels is a companion for anyone who has ever wrestled with perfection, the fear or being seen, inherited wounds, or the longing to live more fully.

During the pandemic, as a way to stay in touch with my then 92-year-old grandmother, I would snail mail her poems about camp. Most of them were written on scraps of paper or embedded into a card or letter.

Once I realized how many I’d written, I compiled them into a book for her. I’ve written for The New York Times, National Geographic, Washington Post, Boston Globe, Travel + Leisure, etc., but this will always be the project that is most dear to me.

Each book will be signed and dated.
